Subtitling for Deaf/Hard-of-hearing audiences

Since we now have the Digital Projector installed and working at the Electric Palace it opens up all sorts of possibilities to us. These include things like 3D, live concert broadcasts and the one I would like to talk about - subtitling.

Most of the films that we now receive come with the option of using subtitles.

Now, in the past I have spoken to a few deaf/hard-of-hearing members of our audience about the possibility of running a regular special showing with the subtitles enabled. This might, for example, be on a Tuesday following the normal weekend shows and be a showing of the Friday/Saturday main film.

Now this is very much up in the air at present because we first have to try and assess the potential audience for the show and try and see if we can staff the cinema (remember that we are all volunteers!).

So - what I would like to do is to get in touch with a member of wither the deaf or hard-of-hearing community in the area with a view to getting their help to contact their community on our behalf and get some feedback for us.

If anyone reading this feels that they could help please feel free to get in touch. You can email me at mgwright@gmail.com, send a message to our twitter account (@HarwichEP) or just leave a comment here and I will get back to you.

Thanks
